Widows are a stoner rock/metal band based out of Nottingham, England. Forming in 2008, this quartet delivers rowdy sludgy rock inspired by the southern NOLA scene and the Desert rock scene.[1] To date the band has released two studio albums and has toured all over England, with a couple tours generally through Europe.

History[]

Widows would form in May 2008, performing a style of stoner rock heavily inspired by the likes of Down, Clutch, Kyuss, Goatsnake and other sludge and desert acts. Widows would perform live for the first time in June 2009 at Vienna (With Gentlemen's Pistols, Old Romantic Killers Band, and Freezing Fog.), roughly a year after forming. The band would begin recording that August at Stuck on a Name Studio in Nottingham, leading up to the release of Raise The Monolith the next year. Early shows saw them sharing the stage with the likes of Taint, Nebula, Truckfighters and The Atomic Bitchwax among others.

Through 2011 Widows would play with the likes of Colour Haze, Alunah, Gurt and Steak just to name a few as work began on a debut album.[2] The band would sign with the Nottingham label Bad News and record at Moot Group Studio in June 2011. As a pre-promotion for the album Widows would tour England that Fall. Death Valley Duchess would see release on 27 April 2012 to generally positive reviews.[3][4][5] Widows would make an appearance at the inaugural Desertfest London, The Waterfront Festival and Everything Went Heavier among other marquee gigs to support Death Valley Duchess.

Through the next couple years Widows would participate in several short UK tours, their first European tour in 2014 and appear at all-dayer events such as Riff Fest[6] and Red Sun Festival.[7] A new single in Blue Tina would be unveiled in the Spring of 2015 as work began on a second album.

Recording at Skyhammer Studios in 2016 after finding a bass player to settle on in Phil Emblim, Widows would sign with UMC Recordings for their second outing. Oh Deer God would see release on 14 April 2017 to further positive reception.[8][9][10][11] Widows would tour in 2017 and perform several marquee gigs over the next two years including Bloodstock and APF Records Showcase just to name a few. The band would also sign with APF Records to release Ten'Yer on 28 January 2019, serving as the final release featuring longtime drummer Ze Big.
