Volumes 11 & 12 (Also stylized as Vols. 11 & 12) is the sixth album by The Desert Sessions, a side. Comprised of eight songs spanning thirty-one minutes, Side A would be Vol. 11 and titled Arrivederci Despair while Side B would be titled Tightwads & Nitwits & Critics & Heels. It was released in October 2019, the group's first release after a 16-year hiatus, the first to be released on Matador and the first Desert Sessions release to be comprised as a single LP rather than a double 10" set in regards to the vinyl. The album features contributions by various rock artists including Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, Carla Azar of Autolux, Les Claypool of Primus, Matt Sweeney, Matt Berry, and Libby Grace.
On 13 September 2019 it would be announced that new Desert Sessions recordings are confirmed, set for an October release via Matador Records after being previously hinted at in a post by Josh Homme.[1] Notably Dave Catching would engineer and be the only musician from any of the prior sessions to appear on Vol. 11 and 12. Volumes 11 and 12 would attain generally positive reviews, attaining a 77/100 score on Metacritic.[2] The artwork, comprised by Doug Cunningham & Jason Noto, would notably win the duo a Grammy on 14 March 2021 for "Best Recording Package".[3]
