Variations on a Theme is the debut studio album by Om, released in 2005 via Holy Mountain Records. It was billed as the return of Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, the former who had not appeared on any recorded music since Dopesmoker in 1996.

Background[]

When Om had formed in 2003 and a buzz was created among the stoner rock scene, the band had at some point recorded a practice tape. Cisneros' girlfriend at the time got the band in contact with Holy Mountain Records' John Whitston, who quickly signed them and found them the time to record. Around the same time the band had performed their first shows at the Bottom of The Hill and The Independent in San Fransisco.[1]

The album was released on Cd and vinyl with the band performing a string of shows around the California area and one appearance in New York.
