Twins of Evil (2023) |
Twins of Evil is a co-headlining tour featuring the American grunge band Melvins and the Japanese experimental rock band Boris. Spanning two months in the Fall of 2023, it would see The Melvins touring further in support of their 40th anniversary and performing Bullhead along with other songs. Boris would notably perform Heavy Rocks 2002 in support of it's 2023 re-issue via Third Man Records. Amphetamine Reptile Records band Mr. Phylzzz would serve as direct support on all dates.
Both bands would speak at length on the upcoming tour: "40 years as THE MELVINS!!! What better way to celebrate that unlikely milestone than by setting off on the 'Twins Of Evil' tour with our friends, BORIS," Buzz Osborne shares of a set that will see the iconic band perform the beloved 'Bullhead' album in its entirety, as well as additional tracks across their discography. "This will be a stone groove!"
BORIS's Takeshi adds: "Could anyone have predicted such an astonishing event, that BORIS and THE MELVINS would tour the entire USA together? Since the mid-1980s, THE MELVINS have had an enormous influence on artists of all genres not only limited to heavy music, and have brought forth a surge of faithful followers over the years. Needless to say, BORIS is just one of these many bands influenced by the mighty MELVINS, and we took our name from a song title off of the 1991 album, 'Bullhead'."[1]
In early August it would be announced that Boris would be the headlining performer while Melvins would serve as direct support, performing a full set. On 23 August it would be announced that Coady Willis would be filling in on drums as Dale Crover would be out due to emergency spine surgery.[2] It's notably the first full Melvins tour without Crover and in turn the tour would be dedicated to him as he would recover.
Notably despite the billing of performing full albums there would be omissions. In regards to Melvins "If I Had an Exorcism" would be omitted from Bullhead. In regards to Boris "Rattlesnake" would be omitted on some dates while "Dronevil" would be added. Some dates had both songs while some omitted "Dronevil" for "Rattlesnake".
Melvins would have to drop from two dates of the tour due to scheduling conflicts and Coady having prior commitments with Big Business.
The tour name is humorously shared with a tour featuring Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson.
