The Ultra Electric Mega Galactic is a psychedelic/space rock band originating from Red Bank, New Jersey but later re-locating to Los Angeles, California. Founded in 2006 by three members of Monster Magnet, it is led by lead guitarist Ed Mundell. The band's official bio describes them as "a no nonsense, psychedelic, space rock orgy built on riffs and classic 70's guitar rock.". Though occasionally having vocalists the band is largely instrumental.

To date The Ultra Electric Mega Galactic have released a single album and EP, along with touring the West Coast United States and Europe.

History[]

In 2005 and 2006 Ed Mundell began recording demos for a solo project while Monster Magnet was taking time off from touring (And later due to frontman Dave Wyndorf suffering from a drug overdose in February 2006.). Working with fellow Monster Magnet members Jim Baglino and Bob Pantella, The Ultra Electric Mega Galactic was formed in 2006 with their debut show taking place at The Brighton Bar in Long Branch on 3 October 2006.[1] Little else is known about this early era of the band.

In September 2010 Ed Mundell would leave Monster Magnet[2] and express interest in exploring new musical ventures.[3] In 2011, along with forming a new band in 9 Chambers, Mundell would reboot The Ultra Electric Mega Galactic with Collyn McCoy (Trash Titan, Otep) and Rick Ferrante (Sasquatch) after re-locating to Los Angeles. After performing a string of shows in the California area, the band would release an eponymous debut album in 2013, followed by a West Coast tour alongside The Freeks and Blaak Heat Shujaa. The next year, along with releasing an EP entitled Through The Dark Matter, the band would tour Europe with Sasquatch, which included appearances at Desertfest London and DesertFest Berlin.

The band is slowly working towards new material.
