The Johnny Morrow Tribute (Also known as Morrowfest) were two tribute shows hosted in England circa 2002. Featuring a wide range of musical acts in the underground metal scene, the two events hosted in August would pay tribute to Johnny Morrow (Iron Monkey, Murder One) who had died two months prior.
Background[]
On 22 June 2002 Johnny Morrow was found dead from heart failure in his sleep, found by former Iron Monkey bandmate Jim Rushby. He had been suffering kidney issues for years and was on dialysis at the time of his passing.[1] The next day Rushby would make a statement about Morrow's life and announce two tribute shows, featuring "many of the bands who played with, shared membership with or were inspired by Johnny.".[2] Morrow's funeral would take place on 1 July 2002 in Newcastle.[3]
In July Eyehategod would announce a six-date UK tour surrounding their appearance at The Johnny Morrow Tribute in Nottingham, donating their time and services free of charge. Notably Jimmy Bower would be unable to attend the tour due to commitments with Down, leading to Gary Mader playing guitar and Marvin (Varukers, Chaos UK) filling in on bass.[4]
All ticket and merch sales would be donated to Morrow's parents and used for their own choosing. £3000 would be raised on the first night[5] while attendance for the second night would be over a thousand people, overall nearly £9000 raised.[6]
