The Hunt is the sixth studio album by the Swedish metal band Grand Magus. Recorded in the Winter of 2011 going into 2012 as per the band's tradition, The Hunt would be released in the Spring of 2012 to positive reviews. Notably it would be the band's debut on Nuclear Blast Records and the first to feature Ludwig Witt (Spiritual Beggars, Firebird) on drums. Notably, Arik Roper would design the album cover, having previously done so for the 2008 album Iron Will.
Background[]
Work would begin on a sixth album following frequent touring of Europe in support of the band's fifth album Hammer of The North. Recording would take place at Studio Wahnsinn in Stockholm. Sebastian Sippola would record three demos with the band before departing, with Ludwig Witt joining the band shortly after for the albums' recording sessions. The three demos with Seb appear as bonus tracks on most versions.
On 8 March 2012 it would be announced that Grand Magus had signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records.[1] Details on the album would surface including the tracklist, album art and a handful of tracks for free listen.[2][3] The Hunt would see release in May 2012, charting in several countries (#76 in Switzerland, #68 in Austria, #49 in Sweden and #42 in Germany) and to date the band's only album to chart in their native Sweden.
The Hunt would attain positive reviews from several publications[4][5][6]
