The Garden of Unearthly Delights is the eighth full-length album by the British doom metal band Cathedral. It was released circa September 2005 via Nuclear Blast Records. The album title is inspired by the Hieronymous Bosch painting The Garden of Earthly Delights and was recorded at New Rising Studios by producer Warren Riker. It's notably the first of two Cathedral albums on Nuclear Blast Records.
(The album was originally intended to be named as "Seeds of Decay" with a mostly different track list.[1] This album would mesh with doom, seventies rock and was topped off by the near 30-minute multigenre piece "The Garden", which the band actually performed live with Circulus as a backing act on on 14 October 2005 at The Camden Underworld.[2] Members of Circulus notably contributed to the record as they were collaborating with Lee Dorrian and Rise Above Records at the time.
The limited-edition digipak version of this album contains an apple-shaped Sniffle Disc CD that emits the smell of an apple when rubbed on the label side or heated during playback in a CD or CD-ROM player. Some buyers of the album would claim that the CD would smell closer to celery than apple.
