The Black Is Never Far is the third album by the Knoxville, Tennessee doom metal band Place of Skulls. Recorded with Travis Wyrick in Knoxville circa 2005 it would be released via German label Exile on Mainstream Records on 1 May 2006 with worldwide distribution via Southern Records. Notably along with featuring current bassist (at the time) Dennis Cornelius it would feature original bassist Lee Abney on three songs. The album would also feature a rendition of "Relentless" which was originally recorded by Pentagram for their debut album of the same name.
In 2012 German label Bilocation Records would re-issue the album on vinyl with 180g vinyl, a 300g gatefold cover and new artwork by Richard Schouten, limited to 500 copies (200x Black, 200x Grey Marble, 100x Solid White).
The Black Is Never Far would attain positive reception from the likes of Blabbermouth (9/10),[1] Angelic Warlord (9/10),[2] Metal Review (8.5/10),[3] Sea of Tranquility (4.5 Stars)[4] and Exclaim!.[5]
