Ten Foot Wizard are a four piece stoner rock band formed in Manchester in 2009.
History[]
Ten Foot Wizard were formed in Manchester, England in late 2009 with an original line-up of Gary Harkin (guitar & vocals), Dan Mucs (guitar), Glen Caskie (bass) and Toby Byers (drums). This line-up remained unchanged until 2012 when Mucs and Byers left the band to be replaced by Adam Henry (guitar} and Matt Lawless (drums).
In the early years of the band, Ten Foot Wizard considered themselves a side project; this changed when Harkin, Henry and former drummer Byers' previous band, Bisonhammer, split in 2012. With this new focus, Ten Foot Wizard's live appearances increased significantly, garnering them a reputation in the Manchester rock and metal scene for their solid live performances. In 2013, Ten Foot Wizard released their first album, Return of the Infinite, put out on their own independent label Beard of Zeus.[1] In 2014, the band played the Jägermeister stage of the UK's Bloodstock Festival. The same year, they also played at the Manchester leg of Karma To Burn and Desert Storm's UK tour. By the end of 2014, the line-up had stabilised as Harkin, Henry, Emlyn Spiers (bass) and Jonny Banyard (drums). 2015 sees Ten Foot Wizard play at DesertFest London in The Black Heart.
Along the way, Ten Foot Wizard have played alongside many bands of the stoner rock scene, including Karma To Burn twice, Witch Mountain, Ovvl, Trippy Wicked, Wight, Widows, Iron Witch and Desert Storm.
The band would release a second album in 2015 entitled Sleeping Volcanoes. A 7" single would follow in Special followed by Get Out Of Your Mind in 2020, released during the CO-VID19 Pandemic. The band was intended to play Desertfest London that year but with the cancellation the band would go largely dormant.
On 28 September 2022 longtime drummer Jonny Barnyard would take his own life, with the band speaking about his death and offering tribute that November.[2][3]
