Biography[]

Takenori Hoshi would join Church of Misery sometime in 2002 after founding guitarist Tomohiro Nishimura had left the band. His first contributions to the band would be recording a trio of songs in the Summer of 2002, later released as The Boston Strangler EP via Finnish label Kult of Nihilow. On 25 July the band would announce their new singer in Hideki Fukasawa.[1] Work would begin on The Second Coming in the Fall, recording at the Los Angeles Club (Tokyo, Japan) from November 2003 to March 2004.

Following a string of live performances The Second Coming would be released on 9 June 2004. In 2005 The Second Coming would be re-issued by French label My Own Salvation, surrounding the band's first ever tour of Europe, known as The Second Coming European Tour 2005. Hoshi had also contributed artwork to a re-issue of the band's debut album Master of Brutality, along with recording a handful of songs for two split 7" releases with Sourvein. In 2006 Hoshi would leave the band, with his final performance on 1 April 2006 at Shimokitazawa Shelter, as chronicled on the DVD Houses of the Unholy. My Own Salvation would also release a DVD of Church of Misery's 2005 tour entitled Live in Red, Eurotour 2005. Hoshi also notably co-wrote "Cranley Gardens (Dennis Nilsen)", which later appeared on the 2008 Dennis Nilsen and the 2013 album Thy Kingdom Scum.

Along with Church of Misery, Hoshi also performed with the instrumental psych rock band Sonic Flower. The band would release their eponymous debut in 2003 via Japanese label Leaf Hound Records, along with performing sporadic shows throughout Japan. Hoshi would remain active with the band up until their quiet dissolution in 2007, their last show supporting Electric Wizard. Heavy Psych Sounds would re-release the eponymous debut in 2021, along with releasing a second, previously unreleased album known as Rides Again. This album would feature the same lineup as the first album.
