Sword Songs is the eighth studio album by the Swedish metal band Grand Magus. Recorded at several studios through the Winter of 2015 going into 2016, Sword Songs would be released by Nuclear Blast Records in the Spring of 2016. A music video would be made for "Freja's Choice".[1]

Background[]

Development on Sword Songs would begin in the Fall of 2015, ultimately recording at several studios:

  • Drums at Top Floor Studios in Helsinki, Finland.
  • Guitars, bass and vocals at Studio Supa in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • Assistant engineering at Top Floor Studios in Helsinki, Finland.
  • Mixed at Oral Majority Recordings in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • Mastered at Chartmakers in Helsinki, Finland.

Details on the album would surface in the Spring of 2016,[2] with "Varangian" and "Forged in Iron – Crowned in Steel" revealed to promote the album.[3][4] "Freja's Choice" would be the third single and the video released for the album.[5] Though "In For The Kill" and "Stormbringer" would be listed as bonus tracks, they would appear on nearly every version of the album.

Sword Songs would receive positive reception from the likes of Blabbermouth (8/10),[6] Angry Metal Guy (3/5),[7] The Rocktologist (7/10)[8] and Metal Storm (7.5/10) among others.[9]
