Serpentine Path is a death/doom band with members hailing from New Jersey and New York. Forming in 2011 this group comprises of all three members of Unearthly Trance and Tim Bagshaw, who had previous involvements in Electric Wizard and Ramesses. Their music is a catatonic dirge with lyricism based in the occult, misanthropy and the destruction of the human race, drawing inspiration from the likes of Autopsy, Winter and Grief among others.

History[]

Serpentine Path formed in the summer of 2011 at the beginning of the end of Unearthly Trance and upon Bagshaw's move to the United States. On 16 November 2011 the band established a blog and debuted the song "Erebus" on Soundcloud and BrooklynVegan.[1] The band's eponymous debut 7" would see release on 1 February 2012 as the band finished sessions on their debut self-titled Serpentine Path, released via Relapse Records on 11 September 2012. On 19 September the band announced that Winter guitarist Stephen Flam joined the group and that their live debut would be at Saint Vitus Bar on 27 October 2012.[2]

The band would start work on a second record while making sporadic live appearances such as Autumn Screams Doom at the Ottobar in Baltimore on 26 October 2013. Recording on the band's second record by December that year. A single to promote the album in Disfigured Colossus would be released on 15 April and Serpentine Path's second album Emanations was released on 27 May 2014 to positive reviews, their only recordings as a five-piece. The band would follow with a single live appearance at The Acheron on 21 June 2014. The band performed two more shows the next year: A headlining appearance at Saint Vitus Bar on 4 January 2015 and an appearance at Maryland Deathfest that May. A previously unreleased song entitled Venom was released on their Bandcamp, recorded in 2012 between the two albums.

As of 30 March 2016 the band is on hiatus with Bagshaw currently concentrating on With The Dead. Newman, Verni and Lipynsky have since reformed Unearthly Trance, releasing their sixth studio album in early 2017.
