Samsara Blues Experiment was a German band founded in summer 2007 by guitarist Christian Peters after leaving the band Terraplane, followed by Hans Eiselt, Richard Behrens and Thomas Vedder joining in Autumn 2008 to solidify the lineup. Samsara Blues Experiment perform a mix of stoner rock, psychedelic and experimental rock drawing from the likes of space, folklore and raga among other themes.

Whether as a trio or a quartet the band would attain a reputation for their top-notch live performances and expansive sound. Samsara Blues Experiment would release five studio albums in a career spanning from 2007 - 2020.

History[]

Samsara Blues Experiment would be founded in the Summer of 2007 by former Terraplane guitarist Christian Peters The band would go through a rotating lineup through the year[1] before settling into the lineup of Peters, second guitarist Hans Eiselt, bassist Richard Behrens and drummer Thomas Vedder. The band's first live performance would be on 7 November 2008 at Alhambra in Luckenwalde, as part of a four-date German tour.[2] The next year the band would release a self-titled EP and following a string of shows with Skywise would tour the West Coast of the United States despite having no label support and only a demo release, a tour the band had since referred to as a "legendary" experience.[3] Prior touring through the Fall alongside Pater Nembrot, work would begin on a debut album with recording taking place from April - Oct. 2009 at Big Snuff Studio in Berlin.

Long Distance Trip would see release in the Spring of 2010, attaining positive reviews from the likes of The Obelisk,[4] The Sleeping Shaman[5] Heavy Planet[6] and Sea of Tranquility[7] among other publications. A release party would be hosted at Arcanoa in Berlin on 4 April 2010, followed by an appearance at Roadburn Festival on 15 April. The band would tour with Yawning Man that summer while also performing at various festivals such as Yellowstock and Stoned From The Underground, sharing the stage with the likes of Hawkwind, My Sleeping Karma, The Flying Eyes and Guru Guru just to name a few.

Work would begin on a second record through the Spring and Summer of 2011, recording again at Big Snuff Studio from February to August. Between recording sessions Samsara Blues Experiment would tour Europe with Sons of Otis, along with appearances at Roadburn, Burning Earth Festival, Duna Jam and Santorock Festival among other marquee performances. That September the band would perform two special shows at Tilsiter in Pompeji in Berlin, performing an interpretation of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis". Revelation & Mystery would see release on 31 October 2011 to further critical acclaim[8][9][10] and an extensive European tour as part of the Up In Smoke touring festival alongside Lonely Kamel, My Sleeping Karma and The Machine.

2012 would see further marquee appearances and touring to support Revelation & Mystery, touring in the Spring with Iguana and performing as festivals such as the inaugural Desertfest London, SonicBlast Moledo, Red Moon Festival, Orqo Haus Festival and other festivals among a special set with the band performing the score to the classic film "Nosferatu". The band would also release a 12" single entitled Center Of The Sun / Midnight Boogie that same year.

In 2013 work would begin on a third studio album following appearances at DesertFest Berlin, Lake on Fire Festival, Days Of The Ceremony and Devilstone Festival, returning once again to Big Snuff Studios through the Summer. Waiting For The Flood would see release on 8 November 2013 via Electric Magic Records to a wider range of critical praise than ever before.[11][12][13][14] Samsara Blues Experiment would tour through Europe that November to support their third album followed by appearances at DesertFest London, Freak Valley Festival and Keep it Low the next year. In 2015 Samsara Blues Experiment would return to the United States for exclusive appearances at Levitation Austin and Psycho California.

Samsara Blues Experiment would largely take a year off touring as it's respective members would concentrate on other projects, along with recording a fourth studio album at Big Snuff Studios. One With The Universe would see release on 10 April 2017 to positive reception from several publications such as The Obelisk,[15] More Fuzz,[16] Louder Sound[17] and Outlaws of The Sun[18] among other publications.

To support One With The Universe, Samsara Blues Experiment would tour South America for the first time, followed by a short European tour surrounding appearances at Riff Ritual Fest, Under The Black Moon, DesertFest London and DesertFest Berlin. A release party would be hosted on 13 May 2017,[19] surrounding a tour with Kaleidobolt. Further touring would take place through 2018 and 2019 of Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

Work would begin on a fifth studio album from the Fall of 2019 through most of 2020, announcing that a new album was being recorded at Big Snuff Studios, seven songs in all.[20] However on 2 November 2020 it would be announced that the band would go on a hiatus but the fifth album would be finished and set for a January 2021 release.[21] The album would later be titled End of Forever.

Christian Peters continues his musical ambitions in the new project Fuzz Sagrado which has certain similarities with Samsara Blues Experiment. The Fuzz Sagrado-debut album "A New Dimension" has been released in February 2022. Thomas Vedder and Hans Eiselt remain active in their side project bands Ewok and Rodeo Drive.
