Sally was a stoner rock/stoner metal band based out of Birmingham, England. Forming in 1996 the band released two albums in their original run, touring with the likes of Karma To Burn. The band would break up in 2004 but re-form in 2010 for a string of reunion shows throughout the United Kingdom.
The band's sound was heavily influenced by the likes of Mudhoney, Sonic Youth and Fu Manchu among others. The band's name is inspired by final girl "Sally Hardesty" from the iconic 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
History[]
Sally came into conception in the summer of 1996 as a three-piece. The band began when Donovan and Parker met brown with the intention of writing repetitive, monotonous riffs, in an attempt to emulate sounds of the the bands of the early 90's that they liked. The concept of "real songs" was dismissed immediately. Initially the band had no interest in having a lead singer. The band would write, rehearse and gig for about six months before realizing they needed a second guitar place. Nigel would join in early 1997 and the band's sound would slightly change, as would the band's tuning (To Drop D) and taste for amps.
Two self-titled demos would drop in Summer 1997 and Spring 1998 respectively and soon the band would be signed to Rise Above Records, followed by attaining a singer in Penance vocalist Lee Smith in early 1999. The band would embark on their first tour that year with Karma To Burn, with Nigel departing from the band not long after. Working with Dave Chang, the eponymous Sally would see release in November 1999 to positive reviews. The band would do their first and only known tour of Europe with Karma To Burn the next year.
In April 2002 Sally would follow-up by working with engineer Billy Anderson for their follow-up record with the band's second album C-Earth seeing release on 30 June 2003. However the band only performed sporadic gigs in England before disbanding in 2004.
Sally would reunite in 2010 with the same quartet lineup as performed from late 1999 - 2004. The band would perform a string of gigs in 2010 with the likes of Selfless and Alunah[1] before touring with Alunah the next year and performing several more gigs.[2] The band's last known gig took place on 27 May 2012 and at the time of the reunion had intents to write and record a new album.[3]
