Rock Formations is the debut album by the California desert rock band Yawning Man. Recorded in 2004 and released in the spring of 2005, it is the band's first official release despite forming in 1986, nearly twenty years prior to Rock Formation's release.
Background[]
Yawning Man began performing on a regular basis again circa 2003 to which the original lineup of Arce, Hernández and Lalli got together to record ten original songs the next year. Signing to Spanish label Alone Records, Rock Formations was released on 7 March 2005 to praise among the stoner scene and regarded as a long-awaited release. The band would embark on their first ever tour through a string of dates in Europe supporting the album though Billy Cordell would take over as bassist for said tour.
Initial pressings saw Rock Formations on CD and Vinyl (Black, Teal Marble, Purple Marble). The next year a CD reissue would come with a DVD of a live performance from 2005 in The Netherlands, limited to 500 copies. Rock Formations and Pot Head were put together on a 2007 compilation CD known as Vista Point. Cobraside Distribution would reissue Rock Formations on CD and Vinyl (Green, Brown, Grey Marble, Light Green Marble) in support of the band's 2017 tours.
