Red Stoner Sun are a Berlin-based desert rock trio, active since 1998. Describing their music as "experimental outtaspace jams" and "some good ol' sounds" they mix desert rock with elements of space rock, psychedelic and freeform jams. Since forming the band has released three studio albums.

History[]

Red Stoner Sun formed in September 1998. Initially the band had just recorded a jam-session on a 8-track recorder, later adding some guitars and vocals. The next day they had an 11 Track promo CD called :smoke.76…the livesession. Two months later they would record again, leading to the four-song cassette Milwaukee Sonic Girls. Those two promos were released on the band's first gig in February 1999 at the Niagara in Berlin-Kreuzberg. In April the band recorded another 11 Track CD in Bonanzas Rock. In June 1999 the band would release their first official studio album Planetary Orbiter Session. At the band's last live performance that year they released El Paso Vol. 1, a compilation with new recordings, live songs and special jams.

The band gigged throughout 2000, performing with the likes of Danko Jones, Madrugada, Zen Guerilla, Rotor and Ojo Roko. Dr. Till Beat would join the group that year in time for the release of El Paso Vol. II. However by March 2002 the band would go on a hiatus, as they quoted as they "had enough and flew back to our home planet somewhere over the rainbow…".

In 2006, the band would resurface for occasional shows and state they had a new album in the works, intended for a 2007 release. A retrospective compilation did see release in 2008 entitled Are you stoned? A great collection of outtaspace tunes 1998-2008. The band would begin playing more shows in Germany building up to the release of Echo Return, coming out via Timezone on 6 December 2013. The band would follow up with an appearance at DesertFest Berlin and a couple shows supporting Spirit Caravan. Four years later amid a host of sporadic shows the band would release a third album in The Wicked Witch of the West, circa 26 January 2018.
