To date the trio has released three studio albums, two of which through Desert Records and attaining higher critical praise. The band has also notably toured through North America and performed at marquee events such as SXSW, Electric Funeral Fest and Monolith on The Mesa among others.
History[]
Red Mesa formed in late 2013[1] with their earliest known show on 13 March 2014 at Malarkey's.[2] The founding lineup of Brad Frye, Shawn Wright and Duane Gaspar would perform largely in the New Mexico area. Recording at The Lab Studios with Howard Wulkin, the eponymous Red Mesa would see release on 14 August 2014 with a release party the day after.[3] Gaining attention from publications like The Ripple Effect,[4] the band would sign with Ripple Music for the fourth edition of The Second Coming of Heavy series, ultimately as part of a split with Blue Snaggletooth released circa 10 December 2016.
In late 2017 details on a second studio album would be announced,[5] along with an IndieGogo campaign and a new lineup in the Spring.[6][7] Eventually Brad Frye would curate his own label in Desert Records and release The Devil and The Desert on 1 June 2018 to positive reception.[8][9][10] A vinyl release party would be hosted on 15 June 2018 alongside Earthride,[11] followed by a 21st birthday party for the venue Launchpad[12] and a North American Tour in the Fall.[13]
Red Mesa would tour further to support The Devil and The Desert, appearing at marquee events such as SXSW, Stoner Jam,[14] Electric Funeral Fest[15] and Monolith on The Mesa.[16] Work would also begin on a third studio album with a new bassist in Alex Cantwell. The band would record at Empty House Studio in January and February of 2020 with engineer/producer Matthew Tobias while mastering was handled by John McBain (Monster Magnet). On 12 May 2020 further details would be announced on this third album entitled The Path To The Deathless including it's release date of 12 June 2020 and featuring several guests, including Dave Sherman (Wretched, Earthride, Spirit Caravan, etc.) and Wino (The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand, etc.).[17] The Path To The Deathless would attain critical praise from the likes of The Sleeping Shaman,[18] Outlaws of The Sun[19] and Sleeping Village Reviews[20] among others.
