Primitive Man is an American sludge metal band from Denver, Colorado, founded in 2012 and currently composed of guitarist-vocalist Ethan Lee McCarthy, bassist Jonathan Campos and drummer Joe Linden.

History Edit

The band was founded in February 2012 by guitarist and vocalist Ethan Lee McCarthy, bassist Jonathan Campos and drummer Bennet Kennedy. In October 2012, the band recorded their debut album Scorn in the studio Flatline Audio under the direction of Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Cobalt, Catheter). The album was released in cooperation with Throatruiner Records and Mordgrimm. After the album's release, Isidro "Spy" Soto joined Primitive Man as a new drummer. In February 2013, the band released the P//M demo, which contained eight songs. In June 2013, the band signed a contract with Relapse Records, and Scorn was re-released in summer of that year. In July and August the band went together with Reproacher on US tour.

Musical style Edit

According to Thomas Sonder of Metal Hammer, the band plays aggressive doom metal on Scorn. Songs like "Antietam" would sound like a mixture of Melek-Tha and Esoteric. Markus Endres of assigns elements from sludge and drone doom to their death metal sound. Adrian Wagner from sees the band mainly in the field of death-doom, but with significant bonds of sludge.
