Omega Massif was a post-metal/downtempo band originating from Würzburg, Germany. Lasting from 2005 - 2014 this all-instrumental quartet released a demo album, two studio albums and two split releases in their tenure. In regards to live shows the band managed to perform throughout various parts of Europe including a host of major European festivals.

They often referred to their music as "Mountain Metal".

Omega Massif were formed in September 2005 by Andreas Schmittfull (guitar), Michael Melchers (guitar), Boris Bilic (bass guitar) and Christof Rath (drums). They recorded their demo album Kalt in 2005 and began playing shows with bands like Knut, Taint and Tephra among others. Building a name for themselves the quartet would work up enough material for a debut album, eventually releasing Geiserstadt on 16 June 2007. The band would attain bigger gigs in support of the record such as appearances at South of Mainstream (2008), Doom Shall Rise (2009) and Roadburn Festival (2009). The band would compose a short tour in the fall of 2009 culminating in appearances at Doom Over Vienna and Denovali Swingfest.[1] By the end of the year the band would be signed to Denovali.

The band would perform a host of short weekender tours or marquee shows (With the likes of Wolves in the Throne Room, Baroness and Dysrhythmia) and Festival Appearances (Hellfest, Fluff Fest, Denovali Swingfest, Doom Over Liepzig) as Denovali would reissue Kalt and Geiserstadt as a double-disc compilation.[2] The band's second album Karpatia would be released in September 2011, with a host of shows and festival appearances following.

By the fall of 2014, Omega Massif was no more. Rath and Schmittfull would begin a new sludge band by the end of 2014 known as Phantom Winter, who as of 2019 have three albums. Bilic would get involved with a stoner metal band known as Blacksmoker and another group known as Malm. Lastly, Melchers would begin an atmospheric sludge band known as Cranial.
