Nouveau Casino is a venue based in Paris, France. Founded in 2001, it is known as "a mythical place for Parisian nights", the Nouveau Casino is a concert hall and a nightclub with a pronounced taste for the underground. Its soundsystem and its varied programming have made it famous because, in addition to welcoming great international artists such as Diplo, M.I.A., or even Lana Del Rey, the Nouveau Casino has always wanted to highlight local artistic figures. It is located at 109 rue Oberkampf in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

The place recently changed owners, but as David Delattre, the new director, says, “it is important to keep the mythical identity of this club, while writing a new page in its history”. A story that will be written in the musical communion thanks to the teams of the New Casino, the artists and the public.[1]

History[]

Foundation[]

From 1850 to 1909, the place housed a café-concert under different names (Le Saint-Pierre, les Folies d'Athènes, le Nouveau Casino) then a cinema, the Casino Oberkampf, in the 1910s, before being transformed in a leather workshop.

The project for a new hall, taking up the name of one of the signs of the beginning of the century, was born in 1999 on the initiative of the managers of the adjoining Café Charbon, an establishment installed in the former foyer of the café-concert and whose turn-of-the-century decoration is inspired by the paintings of Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec: large mirrors, dancing frescoes on the walls, patinas and woodwork. Evenings combining the two spaces are regularly organized.

The architects Louis Paillard and Anne-Françoise Jumeau – who had already designed the music café L'Empreinte in Savigny-le-Temple – have established a project with multiple uses, which allows the New Casino to be both a club, a place for the presentation of multimedia works as well as a professional concert hall. With a capacity of 380 people, the completely soundproof room can operate after midnight.

It benefits from complete sound and lighting equipment, a video projection system and a giant 4 × 3 m screen located at the back of the stage. It has a large bar, a raised stage and a dressing room. The room also has a mezzanine, with coffee tables, benches and candles.

The decoration of the New Casino cultivates the offbeat thanks to its two large 19th century chandeliers. Since its opening in 2001, the program has focused on current music: rock, hip-hop and electronic music. Several operators have taken over the management. David Delattre is the current director.

The Café Charbon[]

Located in the festive rue Oberkampf, the Café Charbon is known and recognized for being an atypical place. Adjoining the Nouveau Casino, the Café Charbon is a typical Parisian brasserie. There are large red benches, high ceilings and large mirrors that reflect the image of the city's brasseries. But what makes its charm and its particularity is its musical atmosphere. Artists are present all year round so that you can enjoy yourself in the best conditions. From 10 a.m. to 4 a.m., the entire Café Charbon team is there to welcome you in a warm, musical, and very Parisian atmosphere.[2]
