Night Goat is a 7" single released originally in 1992. Along with being one the first of only a handful of releases to feature short-lived bassist Joe Preston it would be the first Melvins release with Amphetamine Reptile Records, a label The Melvins still maintain a working relationship with to this day. Along with the title track playing on 33 1/3 RPM the b-side would be a cover of Pussy Galore's "Adolescent Wet Dream" on 45RPM, though Jon Spencer's name would be misspelled in the credits. The original Night Goat single was released as a CD and a 7", limited to 1000 copies.
Night Goat would later be re-recorded for 1993's Houdini with either Buzz or Dale playing bass on the song, ultimately proving to becoming one of the definitive Melvins songs.[1] The 7" would be re-issued in 2014 as part of the Melvins' 30th anniversary with new artwork by HAZE XXL. In the documentary Colossus of Destiny: A Melvins Tale Tom Hazelmyer would ask Buzz what the song was about to create artwork reflective of the song's theme to which he casually replied "Junkies.".
