Lowrider / Nebula (Often known as Double EP) is a split EP by the California stoner rock band Nebula and the Swedish stoner rock band Lowrider. Both EPs would be recorded in 1998 as follows:
- Tracks A1, A2 and A4 recorded at 8-98 at Private Radio, Seattle, WA.
- Track A3 recorded 6-98 art Loho Studios, NYC.
- Mastered at the Santa Fe Center Studios.
- Tracks B1 to B3 recorded at KM Studios, Karlskoga, Sweden 5/22/98-5/24/98.
- Track B4 recorded at KM Studios, Karlskoga, Sweden 8/28/98-8/30/98.
- Mastered 8/31/98-9/2/98 at KM Karlskoga except "Upon The Dune" (Original Version) at the Santa Fe Center Studios.
The Double EP would be initially released on CD and Vinyl (The latter with different Lowrider tracks) via MeteorCity Records in 1999. The initial MeteorCity vinyl would be on green-white splatter. German label Subway Records would issue the EP on Yellow-Red Splatter Vinyl, limited to 1000 copies and including a tour poster of Nebula and Unida. Finally the double EP would be re-issued in 2000 by "I Used To Fuck People Like You In Prison" Records, on CD and Translucent Turquoise Vinyl. Lowrider's songs would be re-issued years later on the special edition of Ode to Io while Nebula's songs would be reissued on Dos EP's.
The split would attain generally positive reception. CMJ approved of the combination of Nebula's dynamic tracks that shifted from quiet intros to earth-shaking guitar solos along with Lowrider's simpler groove tracks with their Black Sabbath influences.[1] AllMusic also appreciated the combination, stating that between the two there were "few stylistic surprises, but [...] superb "yields" of crushing power chords and psychedelic, head-nodding grooves."[2] Joshua Sindell, writing for Kerrang and awarding a 4/5 score, would praise both EPs, comparing Nebula to the likes of early Mudhoney and comparing Lowrider to Kyuss, specifically Blues for the Red Sun. Lou Rinaldi would heavily praise the EP as well.[3] Keith Henderson, writing for Aural Innovations, would actually prefer Lowrider's side though would also admit a generally cynical attitude over the stoner boom.[4]
