Misdemeanor was a stoner/hard rock band from Sweden, formed in 1992. Along with being notable as an all-woman group, they were also one of the first stoner rock bands in Sweden. Active for at least ten years, this quintet would release several EPs amid two studio albums. The band's status has been largely unknown since 2007.
History[]
Misdemeanor would be founded roughly sometime in 1992, with their first gigs sometime in December 1994.[1] Over the next couple years, Misdemeanor would perform with the likes of The Hellacopters, Silvermachine, Sexsationals, A-Bombs, Rise And Shine and more. On 18 May 1997 the band would release an eponymous 7" EP with a release party that same day.[2] A second 7" would follow the next year, titled You're Nothing (And You Know It) and featuring art by Frank Kozik (Man's Ruin Records). By 1998 Misdemeanor began supporting larger touring acts such as Fu Manchu, Spiritual Beggars, Dozer, Demon Cleaner, Earthlings? & Queens of the Stone Age. Notably they also did a gig at Helldorado in 1998 with Brad Davis on drums.[3]
In February 1998, Misdemeanor would travel to The United States to record at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree. Produced by Brant Bjork and Dave Catching and featuring vocals by John Garcia on "Love Song", Five Wheel Drive saw release via MeteorCity Records on 20 March 1999 with a release party in their native Sweden.[4][5] In 2001, Misdemeanor would do an extensive tour of the UK with Raging Speedhorn and Scurge.[6]
Signing with Muse Entity, Misdemeanor would release their self-titled album on 7 April 2002. A 7" single for Let Me Know would also be released on 25 September 2002.[7] In 2002, the band would perform numerous short tours supporting Fu Manchu and Mustasch. A tour of Germany followed the next year surrounding an appearance at Stoned From The Underground. Misdemeanor would begin recording their second album in January 2004,[8] releasing High Crimes and Misdemeanor on 15 September 2004 amid more frequent touring.[9] Further touring would take place in 2005 and 2006, with the band's next EP Stay Away releasing on 16 November 2006.
