Millennium Monsterwork 2000 (2002) |
Kentish Town Forum - London 1st May 2006 (2008) |
Millennium Monsterwork 2000 is a live album by the live-only collective by The Fantômas Melvins Big Band, comprising of a fusion of both the members of Fantômas and Melvins, performing their songs together.[1] This live release is taken from a New Year's Eve 2000 performance at Slim's which was released in 2002 through Ipecac Recordings. Notably the CS only features 18 of the 34 songs in what was a two-hour set.[2] Notably, the recording would also be edited and overdubbed, as Kevin Rutmanis would state in a 2004 interview: "Except for all the overdubs and editing, it’s totally live!".[3]
Millennium Monsterwork would be received with negative reception, with some critical of the fact it's not the full show and overdubbed. Pitchfork would award a 4.9/10, citing it as "one of the more surprising disappointments I've heard this year." and highly critical of the mix.[4] Dusted Magazine would also cite the live record as a disappointment, noting the poor mix and the uneven nature of the release.[5] Modern Fix would be kinder to the release, noting snippets of other band's songs sneaking into the various tracks.[6]
