At the end of last year, I conceded that portable infoboxes are too restrictive for me and abandoned Wikia. A few weeks ago I received a message thanking me for something I posted in the forums in 2014 as it just solved another infobox problem. This motivated me to try again with portable infoboxes. Each portable infobox I create I have a better understanding how to adjust the design.
I found a song infobox which I am cloning as an band portable infobox. This is it using riffipedia. The infobox template is
If you paste that on riffipedia, it will display in default Wikia blue. So portable infoboxes needs styling. Styling for portable infoboxes is stored in MediaWiki:Wikia.css. Only the wiki's titleholders can edit MediaWiki:Wikia.css so that is restricted to yourself and YourNamePlease.
If you want different styles of infobox, a theme-name has to be used. As you color-coordinate your infoboxes, theme-name is required. I theme-named this MediaWiki:Wikia.css styling as band and appears on each line
IMPORTANT : After saving, you have to bypass your browser's cache to see the changes. A message should be added to the top of the MediaWiki:Wikia.css page listing all browsers methods. Also purge the infobox page (F5) if updating the styling.
What each styling line does is described on the CSS help page
The using of infoboxes is unchanged

Thank you TableWiz. I was getting ridiculously frustrated trying to work this out myself too, and eventually just abandoned trying and stuck to my old methods. The main problem is, those with the knowledge in the community section have taken a particularly arrogant view on this and seem to be unwilling to explain any of this in terms that those without said knowlege would understand. It seems very off putting to me, and I can only imagine how aggravating it must be to people just starting out.
I will have a try of implementing this on all my infoboxes now as it explains way better for me than anything I've seen. May hit you up again soon if I need any more help.
Just tried to rename, I think wikia makes it so that you have to have capital letters at the start by the looks. No problem though, as when you do the write up on the page, you can call them 'godheadSilo' any time you mention their name.
Hey fella, I'm just one man haha. It's a wiki, only started 6 months ago, and growing day in, day out, but it's a long process. You could always help me out though. This site is set up to work like Wikipedia - anybody can edit it. I've set up the skeleton of the page here and I have an edit guide set up to help you out.
But so long as you can provide the information (all factual, no opinions) I can make it look good for you.
In other words, more than happy to add a Bushfire page - I want every stoner, doom, sludge, psych, fuzz and drone band on here eventually, and every album, festival, musician of the genre too - but if you help me out, your page will be up quicker and look better.
