Live! Amplifier Worship is a collection of live recordings curated by Boris and released in May 2021 as part of the (then) final edition of Bandcamp Fridays, released alongside Kanau. This live album, initially announced in early May,[1] would chronicle songs from live performances around the time of the band's second studio album Amplifier Worship. Along with recordings of four of the five songs on that album there would be unreleased live cuts of songs from Barebones / Boris and Boris / Tomsk-7.

Information[]

“Live! Amplifier Worship”

A live recording from the period of Boris’s megavolume outing, “Amplifier Worship”. This release is compiled from soundboard-direct recordings of live shows at the legendary and now defunct Koenji 20000V Club in Tokyo and the final show from their 1998 western Japan tour in Fukuoka. At the time they continually held their own independently planned events, playing with a variety of bands and spreading the notion to support underground music, and began undergoing tours of the various regions of Japan. The 7 live takes featured here are 4 tracks from “Amplifier Worship” along with “Soul Search You Sleep” and “In Hush” from the 1996 split release with Barebones, as well as “Mass Mercury” from the 1997 split with Tomsk-7 released by Bovine Records, a US powerviolence/fastcore label. This includes live-recorded versions of some songs released for the first time.

With sympathy toward the so-called “powerviolence” scene/movement of the time, it was a time when Boris was in pursuit of their own approach. For the jacket a cut is used from Hiroko Matsushita, a hardcore photographer given the nickname “Obachan” who thoroughly documented the Koenji scene of those days.

Along with the remastered re-releases of “Amplifier Worship” from Third Man Records and Mangrove last year, we hope you enjoy this live recording that encompasses the atmosphere of that time.[2]
