Lillie: F-65 is the eighth studio album by Saint Vitus. Released on 27 April 2012 in Europe and 22 May 2012 in North America[1] it would serve as a comeback album of sorts and the first recordings since reuniting in 2008. It would be their first album in nearly seventeen years with 1995's Die Healing being their last album prior. Lillie: F-65 would further solidify a resurgence for the band and attain critical praise.

Retroactively it would prove to be the first album to feature drummer Henry Vasquez, the only album in the band's second run to feature Wino (His first album in 22 years since 1990's V and the last album to feature founding bassist Mark Adams, who would leave the band due to Parkinson's Disease.

The album's title references a barbiturate that Dave Chandler took in high school, describing it as basically "a horse tranquilizer".[2] Wino also confirmed the reference in an interview with Terrorizer, citing it as a "powerful downer" and that Dave Chandler "really had a thing for downers.".[3]

Background[]

In the midst of Saint Vitus' reunion beginning in 2009, work would slowly begin on a new Saint Vitus album, announced as early as in the works through the Spring of 2010.[4][5] Plans were originally to record the album that year and release it in 2011 but delays would happen. During the Metalliance Tour in 2011 with Crowbar and Helmet, Saint Vitus would premiere a new song entitled "Blessed Night". The band would record with Tony Reed (Mos Generator) in Port Orchard, recording the album in roughly three days.[6]

On 8 November 2010 it would be announced that Saint Vitus had signed a worldwide deal with Season of Mist, along with the album's title being announced.[7][8] On 23 March 2012 a 7" single for Blessed Night was released and limited to 1,000 handnumbered copies. The b-side would be a live rendition of "Look Behind You" which was record circa December 2010 at Z7 in Pretteln, Switzerland. On 3 April 2012 Saint Vitus and SCION A/V released a video for the song "Let Them Fall" which was produced and directed by Michael Panduro (Siegfred Productions).

Lillie: F-65 would attain praise from several publications such as Pitchfork (8.0/10),[9] Metal Assault (9/10)[10] and Metal Temple (10/10)[11] among positive scoreless reviews from the likes of NPR,[12] The Obelisk[13] and Your Last Rites.[14]
