Lento are an atmospheric sludge/post-metal band based out of Rome, Italy. Forming in 2004, the band draws from a wide range of influences including seminal bands such as Neurosis, Earth and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Over the years the band has altered between a quartet and a quintet, eventually evolving into a trio.
History[]
Lento would form in the Fall of 2004, quickly releasing an EP in Painting The Hangars and gaining buzz in the Italian heavy scene. After a short time break, in late 2005, Lento expanded into a five piece act, and began structuring the basement of a more elaborate mood. Incorporating elements of ambient, doom and hardcore, lento has created a perfect opposition between sludge heavy riffs and ambient psychedelic suites. Lento's tone is a blend of heavily down tuned guitars, apocalyptic slow tempos, systematic drones and resonant feedbacks, their live sets alternate from hardcore assaults to intimate collapses of the signals.[1]
On 7 March 2007 Lento would collaborate with Ufomammut in an improvised session in Rome, culminating in Supernaturals: Record One that September. The band also released their debut album Earthen via Supernatural Cat around the same time. The two bands would tour together the next year. Signing with Denovali Records, Lento would follow with two more studio albums (2011's Icon and 2012's Anxiety Despair Languish) and tour Europe on a regular basis through the 2010s.
The band would take a short hiatus following a string of shows in 2014. Lento would re-surface as a trio in 2017, releasing Fourth on 6 October 2017.[2] Amid festival appearances and marquee shows, Lento would also embark on a short tour in 2019, performing in Lithuania, Belarus and Russia for the first time.
