Leagues Beneath is a single released by stoner metal band Sleep. Composed for the Adult Swim Singles series, it was released on 23 May 2018. At sixteen minutes and forty-five seconds, Leagues Beneath is the second-longest song in Sleep's discography, only behind the 63-minute Dopesmoker.

Background[edit | edit source]

On 31 May 2017, adult swim announced their 2017 Singles series, spanning a full year and including Sleep as one of their bands. The band had previously been a part of the series, releasing The Clarity in the Spring of 2014. No details on a single had been mentioned (As was the case with The Sciences and it's surprise release on 20 April 2018) and thus was released in surprise fashion as the 59th single in the series on 23 May 2018, nearly a year after it had begun.

According to an interview with Billy Anderson, Leagues Beneath was written in the same sessions as Dopesmoker but ultimately never recorded nor performed live. It has been recorded in the same sessions as The Sciences.

On 9 August 2018, Third Man Records announced that a 12" vinyl edition of the single was now available on black vinyl.
