LAB was a hardcore punk / hard rock band from California. Prior to this band's formation Mike Neider and Bill Torgerson were in the pioneering West Coast hardcore band BL'AST!, who put out four studio albums in the 1980s. This project would form when they jammed with Billy Cordell. Brant Bjork would join on guitar in 1996 and the now quartet would release Burning Leaf / Chihuahua in the summer of 1997, followed by a four-track demo that featured a cover of "Wrathchild" by Iron Maiden.
Bjork would leave to concentrate on other projects, leading LAB to continue as a trio. The band would record an EP in December 1997 and release it in February 1998 as Live Free Or Die. However the band BL'AST! would eventually reunite in the 2010s as part of Southern Lord Records re-issuing their past works.
