Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Remaster

Japanese Heavy Rock Hits is a series of 7" singles produced by the Japanese rock band Boris. Each 7" would be released by the American label Southern Lord Records in 2009, featuring a glam rock cliché for the covers and featuring a single band member whose style is prominent on the songs on each respective release.

Announced in September 2009,[1][2] the first volume (featuring Takeshi on the cover) would be released on 14 September 2009.[3] The second volume (featuring Atsuo on the cover) would follow on 20 October 2009.[4][5] The third volume (featuring Wata on the cover) would be released on 20 November 2009.[6][7]

The standard edition of each 7" would be on black vinyl. However, a pre-order edition would be available with all three volumes on clear purple vinyl, limited to 500 copies. As a special bonus, the pre-order exclusive would come with a t-shirt and a fourth single, a cover of "Seasons" by Earth & Fire, featuring Michio Kurihara on guitar. Notably this cover would be recorded at Bazooka Studio in Shinjuku circa September 2008 by Tetsuya "Cherry" Tochigi.[8]

Several of the songs in the sessions would be re-recorded for potential future releases. Initial track list information included "8" as track 2 on Heavy Rocks and "16:47:52..." as track 6 on Attention Please, but the official preorder revealed they were replaced by "Leak -Truth,yesnoyesnoyes-" and "You" respectively. Two alternate mixes of "Black Original" were used for the Japanese release of New Album, and a live version of "8" is featured as a download bonus for Noise. In 2018 a full video version of "16:47:52..." would be released on the band's YouTube page.

On 2 April 2021 Boris would re-release Japanese Heavy Rock Hits, along with New Album 2009, as part of the band's Bandcamp Friday series. "8", "Black Original" and "16:47:52..." would all be recorded for the New Album 2009 sessions, the last of those three with Takeshi on lead vocals.[9] The digital re-issue of Japanese Heavy Rock Hits would feature all four volumes, along with a re-mix of "Heavy Metal Addict" and "Floor Shaker" as bonus tracks.[10]
