Forest of Equilibrium (1991) |
In Memoriam (Previously known as In Memorium) is the debut release by Cathedral. Initially self-released by the band in 1990 prior to signing with Earache, it has since been re-released three different times by Lee Dorrian's label Rise Above Records. It would feature two songs that would be re-recorded for the band's debut Forest of Equilibrium along with a cover of "All Your Sins" by Pentagram.
Background[]
In Memoriam (Then known as "In Memorium") was originally recorded on 6 and 8 October 1990 featuring the original lineup. Notably it was recorded prior to Cathedral signing with Earache. The original masters remained in a box under Lee Dorrian's bed, forgotten about, subsequent demo's had already been recorded which finally led to a deal with Earache. The original 1990 cassette demos were recorded on standard cassettes and featured xeroxed covers in various colors.[1][2]
In Memorium would be re-released on 1 April 1994 via Rise Above Records, billed as a mini-album. It would be released on CD and Purple Vinyl.
In 1999, Rise Above Records would reissue the EP with the proper Latin title as In Memoriam. Along with unreleased photos the re-issue would feature five bonus tracks recorded in Belgium and The Netherlands. The Music Cartel would handle the release in North America on 18 January 2000[3] and JVC Victor would handle the Japanese release on 23 February 2000.[4]
In June 2015 Rise Above Records would re-issue In Memoriam to coincide with the band's 25th anniversary. Along with remastered sound, it would feature the live bonus tracks from the 1999 reissue, a 28-page booklet with liner notes and unreleased photos and a DVD featuring a live set on 1 April 1991. A vinyl edition would be produced in five colors.
