HypNoGoG is stoner/doom/free improvisation project based out of West Virginia. Formed by one Dan Lively in 1998 with a wide range of collaborators, HypNoGoG serves as a jam band with doom and stoner influences. Whether functioning as a trio or Lively handling all instruments, HypNoGoG perform in an entirely improvisational sense, recording live to the studio with at best minimal overdubs. To date the project is currently signed to Stone Groove Records and have released one album amid a host of singles.

Jason Hillenburg, writing for Hellride Music, would say the following about HypNoGoG: "This is an artistic collective, of sorts, functioning as a band, and the music is largely instrumental and improvisational. Even if the music failed artistically, I wouldn't be able to help but admire the ambition behind such a concept that, obviously, values chemistry over trotting out familiar configurations. Multi-instrumentalist Dan Lively is the common denominator throughout the album and it is safe to say that, despite the outstanding contributions of every musician featured on this collection, it's Lively's seemingly bottomless reservoir of creative energy powering these proceedings. The heated production, everything pushing into the red, works for this music."

The band's name is derived from the hypnagogic state, where one is in a state of consciousness somewhere in between being asleep and awake. Often the mind is incredibly free and lucid imagery courses through the dreamspace in this state forms merging and juxtaposing in unusual ways and can be the source of limitless creativity.
