Hulk was a stoner rock/garage rock band based out of St. Giles, Brussels, Belgium. Active between 2000 - 2007, this stoner rock power trio drew heavily from 70s hard rock and garage rock and gained notoriety for their energetic and raucous live shows.[1] Notably, the band's second album Cowboy Coffee & Burned Knives... was recorded at Rancho De La Luna with guests such as Chris Goss, Brant Bjork, Dave Catching, Mathias Schneeberger and Jesse Hughes.[2] Ultimately, the band released three albums and two EPs before changing their name to Les Anges in 2007.

Biography via Democrazy[]

In 2000 Hulk was founded in the dark and dusty streets of St.Giles in Brussels. As a rock 'n roll trio they were inspired by acts like Elvis, MC5, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Motorhead , The Sex Pistols or even Q.O.T.S.A. Every Hulk song has to be simple and direct like a kiss or a gunshot but the band never loses the emotional aspects out of sight in their compositions. It's Renaud Mayeur's smooth, catchy vocals in combination with his razor sharp, superb guitar playing, driven forward by the rumbling bass of Mathieu Dumont and the swinging grooves and shuffles of Giacomo Panarisi what makes Hulk irresistible. They are as seductive as an English speaking, French student who shows you on purpose a glimpse of her thighs above her stockings when she crosses her legs, ordering a red wine in a sleazy bar. Hulk is tasteful, tempting, eclectic and dangerous at the same time and in every aspect. Hulk is here to bring back the sex and the swing into the rock 'n roll.

David Catching (active in acts like Eagles of Deathmetal, earthlings?, Mark Lanegan Band, and former guitar player of Q.O.T.S.A. and Mondo Generator), one of the leading persons in the famous desert scene, invited the band to record their second full length album in the illustrious Rancho de la Luna studio in the middle of the desert in Joshua Tree. Together with producer Mathias Schneeberger (wellknown from his work with earthlings?, Brant Bjork & the Bros and Goatsnake) they recorded and mixed 21 tracks in only 9 days. 13 of these tracks were chosen for Cowboy Coffee & Burned Knives. With guestappearances by Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Brant Bjork (BB & The Bros and ex-Kyuss, Fu Manchu), Jesse Hughes (Eagles of deathmetal), David Catching and Mathias Scheeberger this record is a genuine masterpiece which reveals the essence of pure rock 'n roll !

The Story so far…… Their first 6 track mini-album Kings of the night (Progress music/Bang) was well received in Belgium. But things went fast after the release of their highly praised debut album Party Time in 2003 (Progress Music/Suburban). Hulk became in less than one year a top rock 'n roll act in the Benelux who played lots of important stages. Some quotes from the press about Party Time: -"…the best Belgian rock cd this year…." OOR -"…dirty rock with a lot of soul…great album! "KINDAMUZIK -"…the masters of nuance in rock'n'roll…88% AARDSHOCK -"…take care every pig will get this pearl…a fantastic rock cd !..." 3 VOOR 12 The band got also amazing live reviews for their performances at the Paaspopfestival where they shared the stage with bands like Gluecifer and Monster Magnet, their show at the Doursfestival and their supports for bands bands like Mondo Generator (Melkweg), Brant Bjork & The Bros (013, Patronaat), The Bellrays (Botanique) and their performance at Eurosonic2004 where they shared the Vera-stage with Franz Ferdinand after which seeing them band John Peel (r.i.p.) played their first single 'Baby' several times at his show on BBC1. The band got also airplay on several radiostations (KinkFm, Studio Brussel) in the Benelux. And their mean black & white video clip of 'Intoxicated' was played many time on The Box.[3]
