Horisont were a hard rock band based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, forming in 2006. Drawing influences from 1960s and 1970s hard rock such as Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas ad YES among other bands, Horisont would concoct a high energy sound in similar vein to many bands in the Swedish rock scene such as Graveyard and Witchcraft.[1]
In a run spanning fifteen years the quintet would release six studio albums and had been a staple on the European touring circuit.
History[]
Horisont formed sometime in 2006 and slowly established themselves in the Scandinavian rock scene. Eventually the quintet would record at at Music-A-Matic with engineers Mikael Nilsson and Henryk Lipp, releasing Två Sidor Av Horisonten on 25 September 2009[2] with a release party at Truckstop Alaska on the same day.[3] The band would follow the next year with short tours alongside the likes of Bombus, Spiders and Troubled Horse among appearances at Muskelrock and Roadburn Festival.[4]
Signing with English label Rise Above Records, Horisont would release Second Assault on 12 March 2012 to positive reviews.[5][6] With a new label and a wider audience, Horisont would tour more frequently, starting with a tour supporting Graveyard around the time of Second Assault's release. Following returns to Roadburn and Muskelrock, Horisont would tour through the summer alongside The Flying Eyes, perform at the release party for My Sleeping Karma's fourth album Soma[7] and a Fall European tour surrounding an appearance at Hammer of Doom Festival.[8]
Gaining significant momentum, work would begin immediately on a third album, working with Per Stålberg and Olle Björk at Welfare Sound Studio in Gothenburg. With a teaser single in Writing on The Wall, Time Warriors would see release on 27 September 2013 to critical acclaim.[9][10][11][12] Along with several short tours in 2013 surrounding the release of Time Warriors, the band would also participate in Rise Above Records' 25th Anniversary Showcase.[13]
Horisont would embark on extensive European touring throughout 2014 in support of Time Warriors, including appearances at Roadburn, Desertfest London, Sweden Rock Festival and Hard Rock Hell among several marquee events. Attaining a new second guitarist in Australian-born Tom Sutton, the band would record with Henrik Magnusson at Kust Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. Attaining more progressive rock elements, Horisont's fourth album Odyssey saw release on 18 September 2015 to further praise,[14][15] including a 9.5/10 review via Metal Temple.[16] To support Odyssey, Horisont would tour estensively with Kadavar and The Shrine in the Fall.[17][18]
Taking time off and attaining a new guitarist in David Kälin, Horisont would self-produce their next album with Ola Ersfjord. Signing with Century Media Records, About Time would be released on 3 February 2017 to positive reviews.[19][20][21] Horisont would tour to support the album in the Spring along with making several festival appearances through 2017[22] and 2018, the latter year including an appearance at DesertFest Berlin.[23]
Horisont would release a sixth album in Sudden Death circa 15 May 2020 to mostly positive reviews.[24][25][26][27] However due to the CO-VID19 Pandemic a tour supporting the record would be canceled.
On 17 September 2021 the band would announce a gig on 30 October at Pustervik, the band's favorite venue in Gothenburg. The band would announce that after this gig and an appearance at the 2022 edition of Muskelrock in Alvesta would be their final live performances.[28]
