Hiroyuki Takano is a vocalist based out of Tokyo, Japan. Active since the 1990s initially with punk rock and metalcore bands, he is best known for his tenures with the sludge/crust band Sithter and as a former singer for Church of Misery. He would be a singer for CoM for six years but never recorded anything with the band.
Early Bands and Sither[]
The earliest known bands Takano performed with were Psycho Business (A punk rock band who released two 7" EPs) and Psychotoblack (A doom/metalcore band that released three demos) before founding Sithter with Hyo "Noise Fucker" Kagawa. Sithter play a style of sludge with elements of doom metal and crust punk not unlike bands such as Eyehategod, Amebix, Discharge and Noothgrush among others.
Church of Misery[]
On 24 March 2017, Church of Misery announced on their Facebook "CoM rises again!" with a new lineup. Along with Mikami, drummer Junichi Yamamura and guitarist Yasuto Muraki, Takano would join on vocals and synthesizer.[1] On 15 May 2017 Desertfest Belgium would announce Church of Misery as one of the headliners, the band's first announced show in three years.[2] Other dates would trickle in before the band would announce a full European tour on 6 July 2017.[3]
Church of Misery would return to more frequent touring throughout the next few years, notably unveiling two new songs in "Unabomber" and "Hungerford Massacre" at their final show of 2019.[4] The band would tour North America in 2020 for their 25th anniversary alongside Truckfighters. On 8 July 2022 Church of Misery would announce that a new studio album was in the works, featuring six originals and one cover of a 70s heavy rock band. Notably, Toshiaki Umemura (Auma, Sonic Flower) would join on drums and Yukito Okazaki (Eternal Elysium) would join on guitar. Takano was originally intended to perform vocals on this record (Ultimately Born Under a Mad Sign) but would leave the band in November 2022.
