Background[]
Earth - Hibernaculum
Earth - Within The Drone
Earth recorded Hibernaculum in early 2006 to bridge the timeframe between albums. All of the songs, except for "A Plague of Angels", are older Earth songs that were re-recorded in the country-influenced style of Hex. "Ouroboros is Broken" originally came from Extra-Capsular Extraction, "Coda Maestoso in F (Flat) Minor" originally came from Pentastar: In the Style of Demons and "Miami Morning Coming Down" was originally recorded on the Scatter compilation under the title "Dissolution II: Miami Morning Coming Down (You Fuck)". "A Plague of Angels" originally appeared on a split with Sunn O))) entitled Angel Coma. "A Plague of Angels" was recorded in December 2005.
The album includes a DVD with a documentary by Seldon Hunt, called "Within the Drone". The documentary was shot during the band's tour with Sunn O))).
The EP title culls from a zoology term for a place of abode in which a creature seeks refuge, such as a bear using a cave to overwinter. Both "Coda Maestoso in F (Flat) Minor" and a "A Plague of Angels" appear in the documentary, "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia".
