Heartless is the third full-length album by the American doom metal band Pallbearer. It was released on 24 March 2017 through Profound Lore Records.
Background[]
Following an extensive cycle of touring in support of the critically acclaimed Foundations of Burden, along with the EP Fear & Fury, Pallbearer would begin work on a third album. In a tour through the United States in 2016 the band would perform instrumental versions of "Thorns" and "Dancing in Madness".[1] The band would record at Fellowship Hall Sound in Little Rock, recording entirely to analog tape that June and August.
Two new songs would be premiered leading up to the album's release in "I Saw The End" and "Thorns",[2] with a music video for "I Saw The End" following on 6 March. Heartless would see release on 24 March via Profound Lore Records (North America) and Nuclear Blast Records (Europe) to critical acclaim, while also hitting several American charts on Billboard such as the Billboard 200 (#187), Tastemakers (#6), Independent Albums Charts (#8), Vinyl Albums (#2) Heatseekers (#1), Hard Rock Albums (#8), Top Rock Albums (#35) and lastly peaking at #1 on the Heatseekers charts on 15 April.[3] The album also charted at #98 on the Offizielle Top 100[4] and #89 on the Ultratops Flanders chart.[5]
The album received an average score of 82/100 from 13 reviews on Metacritic, indicating "universal acclaim".[6] the album would attain positive reviews from several publications such as Spin,[7] Consequence of Sound,[8] Pop Matters,[9] Angry Metal Guy (4.5/5),[10] Metal Injection (9.5/10)[11] and Exclaim! (8/10)[12] just to name a few.
