Hate Ashbury is the fourth album by Bongripper. It was released on CD format on April 28, 2008, and was limited to 500 copies. It was later reissued on vinyl by Féretro Records on May 13, 2011.

The album returns to their usual doom-oriented approach, after their borderline noise album Heroin, and is comprised of eight instrumental tracks that seamlessly flow into the next, each titled "Part I" through "Part VIII", which are condensed here into one song for brevity.

The title of the album is a parody of the Haight Ashbury district in San Fransisco

Background Edit

The album was recorded at guitarist Dennis Pleckham's recording studio Comatose Studio between 2007 and 2008.

Musical style Edit

Hate Ashbury is considered by fans as Bongripper's darkest album, stretching the weird noise/ambience of Heroin into bludgeoning and repetitive doom riffs complete with noise interludes and atmospheric clean passages.
