Hallucinogenesis (2016) |
Hallucinogenesis is the fourth and final studio album by the American progressive stoner doom metal band Lesbian, released on August 26, 2016. It marks the recording debut of new vocalist Brad Mowen (Asva, Master Musicians of Bukkake, Accused), who joined the band in 2015.
Produced, recorded and mixed by Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room, Boris) at Seattle's Avast! Recording Company (Earth, High on Fire), it is a follow-up to the band's previous album, Forestelevision, a one-song, 44-minute release that was hailed as "psychedelic space-doom" by Blabbermouth.
In keeping with the record's surreal storyline, its cover artwork was designed by distinguished heavy metal artist Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel, Entombed).
Background[]
According to the band, the album "tells a fantastical story of a spore-filled asteroid that collides with earth and forever alters its history and the course of consciousness. The impact of this fungal explosion signals a new dawn of creation called 'Pyramidal Existinctualism'. As meteorites are pulled towards the sun, they collide, levitate, circulate, then populate. One of the few survivors of this catastrophe is the Kosmoceratops."
This is the first album by Lesbian not to feature a song longer than 20 minutes in length.
