Greetings From Jonestown is the fifth EP by the Japanese doom metal band Church of Misery. Comprised of three previously unreleased songs and limited to just 100 vinyl copies, Greetings From Jonestown is among the band's rarest releases.
Background[]
"Greetings From Jonestown" would be recorded on 19 June 2006 at On Air Studio in Shinjuku by Ryo Iwasaki. Notably it's the first (and to date, only) instance of Church of Misery writing a second song about a mass murderer or serial killer they have previously written about. The previous song "Reverend", appeared on Born Too Late and later Early Works Compilation.
Both songs of Side B would be recorded at Los Angeles Club in Tokyo from November 2008 - January 2009 by O-Mi Kihara. "Der Hund von Baskerville" was originaly a song by the German Schlager duo Cindy & Bert, who once made a cover of Black Sabbath's song "Paranoid" with German lyrics. This cover is called "Der Hund von Baskerville" ("The dog of Baskerville") and the lyrics have nothing to do with the original song. "Der Hund von Baskerville" by Church of Misery is a cover of that cover and uses the same German lyrics.
"Marmor Stein und Eisen Bricht" is a cover of the famous German Schlager-singer named Drafi Deutscher (1946 - 2006). The cover of the song was recorded in tribute to him, along with the EP itself dedicated to his memory and the band jokingly being given the Deutscher surname in the credits.
The 12" was a limited edition of 100 copies in black vinyl. The first 25 copies comes with autographed photo and smeared in blood labels and printed bags while the other 75 came with printed bags.
