Gonzalo Villagra is an Argentinian musician best known for his tenure in Los Natas, where he would be the band's third bassist and longest serving. Villagra would perform on five of the band's seven studio albums, along with a wide range of other releases.

Along with his tenure in Los Natas, Villagra has performed in a handful of other bands in the Argentina rock scene and also works as a producer and engineer for several bands in a wide range of sounds.

Biography[]

Gonzalo Villagra was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His career would start with engineering bands in the Argentina rock scene with sounds ranging from Latin and psychedelic rock to punk and emo just to scratch the surface. Villagra's earliest known band would be Santoro, who formed in 1998. Villagra, who would be collaborating with Sergio Chotsourian, José Luis Armetta and Gonzalo Espejo, would release a demo and later a single self-titled album in 2001.

In early 2001 Santoro would disband and Villagra would join Los Natas, replacing second bassist Claudio Filadoro. Guitarist/Vocalist Sergio Chotsourian would quickly prepare a new studio album with Villagra on bass, describing the bassist transition as “We changed a bicycle wheel for a truck wheel!”.[1] Los Natas' first album with Villagra on bass (And their first under that name rather than "Natas") would be Corsario negro, released 30 May 2002 via Small Stone Records. Corsario negro would attain critical praise and showcase an expansion in the band's sound.

Los Natas would frequently tour South America and Europe with Villagra on bass and release two more experimental albums over the next two years: 2003's Toba-trance and 2004's Toba-trance II. The trio would follow with recording in Germany, later releasing it as München Sessions in 2005. A new studio album in El hombre montaña would follow on 8 August 2006. A seventh studio album in Nuevo orden de la libertad would see release on 26 May 2009, attaining critical praise from the likes of The Obelisk,[2] Sleazegrinder, AllMusic, Heavy Planet (Notably making their "album of the week"),[3] Cosmic Lava[4] and Lords of Metal Archive[5] to name a few. Ultimately it would rank #2 on both The Obelisk's "Top 20 of 2009"[6] and Your Last Rites' "Top 20 of 2009".[7]

Los Natas would remain active touring in support of their later albums until disbanding in 2012 due to undisclosed health issues. Villagra would focus on engineering and mastering records while also forming a new band in 2014 known as Audion, featuring Los Natas drummer Walter Broide and guitarist/vocalist Dizzy Espeche. The trio would release their first album La Historia de Abraham on 24 April 2017.
