Godspeed was an American metal band formed in 1992. The band's sound was heavily influenced by the heavy rock of the seventies along with eighties heavy metal. Notably the band attained two bassists and were known for their energetic live performances.[1] The band notably released a single album in 1994, along with high-profile tours and appearing on the Black Sabbath tribute album Nativity in Black in collaboration with Bruce Dickinson.
History[]
Godspeed was formed in 1992 by the founding trio of guitarist Tommy Southard, drummer Tim Schoenleber, and bassist Rob Hultz. Soon after the band would recruit David Blanche as their vocalist and Chris Kosnik as their second bassist. The band would initially release a demo and a single in Acid Face / Time Bomb. Godspeed would sign with Atlantic Records in 1993 and begin work on a debut album recording at Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village, produced by Rachel Bolan (Skid Row).
Ride would see release on 19 April 1994 via Atlantic Records, gaining positive reception with their music video for "Houston St." appearing on MTV's Headbangers Ball along with Beavis and Butt-head. Godspeed would tour with Black Sabbath and Cathedral through Europe in 1994, followed by touring with Dio through two North American tours. The band also gained notoriety with an appearance on Nativity in Black, covering "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" with Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) on vocals. Godspeed would not keep that momentum and break up in 1996.
Following the breakup of Godspeed, Chis Kosnik would perform with Black Nasa while founding his own band in The Atomic Bitchwax. Tommy Southard, Rob Hultz and Tim Schoenleber would form Solace in 1996, with Hultz later re-locating to Chicago and joining Trouble in 2013.
The original lineup of Godspeed would reunite in 2012 for a performance at The Brighton Bar on 10 November 2012.[2]
