Goatsnake / Burning Witch is a split CD between the California doom metal band Goatsnake and the Washington doom metal band Burning Witch. It would be released on CD via Hydra Head Records in February 2000. A vinyl version was proposed but never made it past the test pressing stage. Eight copies of the test press exist.[1]
Goatsnake's tracks would be recorded at The Gas Chamber in Los Angeles in the Summer of 1999. "Raw Curtains" would also notably appear on the 2000 EP Dog Days. "Burial at Sea", a Saint Vitus cover, would later appear on the 2004 EP Trampled Under Hoof.
Burning Witch's tracks would be recorded in different sessions, notably featuring a different drummer on each track. "The Bleeder" would be recorded during the autumnal equinox while "Communion" would be recorded during the vernal equinox according to the liner notes. Both tracks were previously included on the band's EPs and later released as part of the Crippled Lucifer re-release in 2008.
