Free... / The Father, The Son and The Holy Smoke is a split album featuring the California stoner metal band Acid King and the Louisiana instrumental project The Mystick Krewe of Clearlight. It would be released on CD via Man's Ruin Records in February 2001, some months before the label would fold.
In regards to Acid King's tracks they would be recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland circa July 2000, with Billy Anderson. Free... would be the first recordings to feature Guy Pinhas on bass though Brian Hill (The bassist on Busse Woods) would provide additional bass on "Four Minutes". The Man's Ruin cover artwork is a photograph of Lori S. holding her motorcycle helmet. It was originally photographed by Alex Obleas then hand drawn by Alan Forbes for the vinyl re-issue on Kreation, which saw Acid King's side of the split on vinyl in 2006 with Down With The Crown as bonus tracks.
In regards to Clearlight's side their songs would be recorded in January 2000 at Balance Studios in Mandeville, Louisiana, presumably in the same sessions as the band's only studio album. Notably Scott "Wino" Weinrich appears as a guest on the eleven-minute song "Veiled".
