Forget About Life, I'm High On Dope is the first demo by the trio lineup of Monster Magnet, recorded and released in 1989. While two of the songs were never re-recorded, four of the songs here would appear on later releases. "Lizard Johnny" and "Freak Shop USA" would later be re-recorded for a single on Circuit Records, along with the self-titled Monster Magnet EP. "Brainstorm" is a Hawkwind cover and would be re-recorded by the band for their second album Superjudge. Lastly, "Tab" would be re-recorded for the EP Tab.
The original tape saw release via Cool Beans with five tracks, with a limited cassette reissue in collaboration with Ugly American Tapes. This second edition would include "Freak Shop USA" which was recorded after this demo. In an interview with Freak Shop USA the band was still known as "Dog of Mystery" when they recorded it in Wyndorf's basement in the Spring of 1989, sometime after opening for Jane's Addiction.[1]
