First Daze Here (The Vintage Collection) is the first of two compilation albums featuring 1970s material of doom metal band Pentagram. It was released by Relapse Records in early 2002 and was followed by First Daze Here Too in 2006.
It marked the first time that these early Pentagram recordings were officially released with worldwide distribution. The CD and Vinyl versions would also contain extensive liner notes by Geof O'Keefe and Bobby Liebling. The standard release would feature "Lazylady" and "Br Forewarned" with overdubs by Liebling but some vinyl editions came with a bonus 7", a replica of the 1972 Macabre single containing the songs "Be Forewarned" and "Lazylady".[2] A 2011 vinyl reissue would contain the original mixes as bonus tracks on Side D.[3] The 2016 CD reissue of the compilation added a second disc – the previously vinyl-only Macabre single replica, this time in compact disc form.[4]
First Daze Here garnered praise from several publications including Julian Cope & Head Heritage,[5] AllMusic,[6] The Vinyl District,[7] Exclaim!,[8] Ox Fanzine[9] and Sputnik Music.[10]
