Firewood is the second studio album by the Swedish hard rock band Witchcraft. Recorded in a proper studio in the Spring of 2005, Firewood would be released that Summer to further critical acclaim. It would notably be the last Witchcraft release to feature contributions from producer Jens Henriksson and the last album to feature drummer Jonas Arnesén.

Background[]

Work would begin on a second Witchcraft album soon after the self-titled would be released, with at least one song ("Queen of Bees") written before work on the album had begun.[1] The band would record at a proper studio with Jens Henriksson producing, finishing recording in the Spring of 2005. "Chylde of Fire" would be premiered to promote the album. A split single with the Acid Rock band Circulus would be released around the same time, featuring "Chylde of Fire".[2] Lastly a music video would be composed for the album.[3]

Firewood would see release on 26 July 2005 initially on CD and Vinyl, the latter initially being on Black Vinyl and Gold Vinyl in limited quantities. Candlelight Records would handle the initial North American edition, as previous distributor The Music Cartel had folded in late 2004. Leaf Hound Records would handle a Japanese release in 2008, containing the vinyl bonus track "The Invisible". Firewood would be re-issued in 2012 on vinyl, with die-hard vinyl editions containing the bonus track, a cover of "When The Screams Come" by Pentagram.

Firewood would see further critical acclaim compared to it's predecessor. Numerous publications at the time of release would praise the album such as Metal Temple (7/10),[4] Metal Reviews (89/100),[5] Blabbermouth (8/10),[6] Metal Rage (9/10),[7] Sweden Rock Magazine (8/10)[8] and I-Mockery.com (10/10)[9] among others. With reissues and anniversaries later reviews would elicit similar praise, such as Pop Matters (7/10)[10] and Doodlehound (Highly Recommended).[11]
