Fenice (Italian for "Phoenix") is the ninth studio album by the Italian psychedelic doom metal band Ufomammut. Recorded in 2021, it would be released circa 9 May 2022 via Supernatural Cat (Europe) and Neurot Recordings (North America). Notably it would be the first Ufomammut album to feature new drummer Levre, who joined in 2021 once original drummer Vita had left in January 2020. Fenice would also mark the longest gap between Ufomammut albums, at nearly five years.
Background[]
On 7 January 2020 it would be announced that original drummer Vita would be leaving Ufomammut after 21 years with the bands. The next day (8 January) it would be announced that Ufomammut would be "pausing for a while, the time has come to turn off amplifiers and let the tubes cool down, to let the silence allow us to rebuild, and then start again.". The band also acknowledged that Vita had left the group and thanked the fans for their run.[1] In April 2021 Ufomammut would announce that their hiatus was over and that, along with announcing that new material was in the works, would announce a new drummer in Levre.
Work would begin on a ninth record through the pandemic, to which Ufomammut would announce their ninth album Fenice (Italian for "Phoenix") on 16 March 2022, with Psychostasia as the first single and an accompanying music video for the song.[2] The band would speak about the album stating that it represents a rebirth from the ashes and a new chapter for the band as a whole.
Fenice would be recorded at Flat Scenario, mixed at Triple Sun and mastered at Locomotore Studio in Italy, by Lorenzo Stecconi. Fenice would be released on CD and LP via Neurot Recordings and as a limited LP via Supernatural Cat, limited to 666 copies.
